I trained in medicine and received my MD at University of California, San Diego. I became interested in backyard birdwatching after buying a house that came with birdfeeders and Anna's hummingbirds! I felt very responsible to take care of them like the previous owners had.
In winter of 2024, I started designing an insulated hummingbird feeder using vacuum insulation technology to put out for the Anna's in winter. I spent a year in research and design to make the safest and most efficient insulated hummingbird feeder.
During my research, I learned that some hummingbirds were dying from moldy, infected nectar. Nectar goes bad faster in the heat. I designed this birdfeeder so that it can be used in hot and cold weather. It is also very easy to clean, which is also crucial to prevent infection.
